PATHOLOGY: Spinal Cord Injury
Hailing from Eudora, Kansas, Rhonda enjoyed riding bikes, rollerblading, and playing basketball growing up. She was also a cheerleader and is a lifelong gardener. Just before Christmas her Junior year of high school, Rhonda was a passenger in a car accident. The vehicle flipped and she was thrown through a window, landing on a concrete culvert.
Rhonda’s spine was shattered, leaving her with a spinal cord injury along with a laundry list of other injuries. Despite a long and grueling recovery process, she was able to graduate high school on time and go on to live an independent life, earning a college degree and becoming a mother.
Rhonda wants to continue pushing herself as a competitor in adaptive sports, specifically track and field. She also wants to go beyond her comfort zone mentally, becoming more involved in social groups and participating in programs like Iron Adaptive and Hyper KC.
